I had to use this Thursday night pic from a storm packing gusts of 100 mph and dumping 2.5 inches of rain on our fair town. Call it an exception to my recent rule that the post would be relevant to the pic.
And now, after the goat meat [...]

You ever eat goat meat?
My lovely wife and I had a date night a couple weeks ago, on a fine Saturday evening. I once again was amazed at the dearth of good Mexican food establishments in a place so abundantly populated by Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. We went to our very quaint downtown square, to a [...]

I overheard a dad talking to his son on the phone. I couldn’t hear the son’s end of the conversation, but I can imagine. Here’s what I heard…
The dad: Well, it isn’t going to get easier. I took 18 hours, sometimes 21 hours each semester, and I made it through.
Pause.
The dad: No, I didn’t work.
The [...]

My tie is a child’s rendering of AZT under the microscope.
I never intended for that many posts to come out of the long Easter weekend. In fact, I have one more to go, because I’ve only touched on Shannon’s family’s festivities.
When Ben and I arrived at cousin J’s Friday night (remember, we’re still talking the [...]

I stand working at the laptop on our kitchen island, reading aloud the affidavits of people who sued their opthalmalogists for malpractice. I glance at Shannon to see whether she’s interested.
One of her feet is on the floor. The other is in the kitchen sink, fresh nail polish glistening in the fluorescent light. Not as [...]

Saturday morning, Shannon and I decided she and I should take care of number one, respectively. Her mother agreed to come watch Ben while we dragged ourselves to the nearest recommended clinic for adults.
Told we had a 30-minute wait, we hung around the packed waiting room, standing-room only. Most of those present were parents with [...]

The mad motorcyclist continues, this time by daylight. He didn’t manage to wake Ben from his nap, but it wasn’t from lack of trying. Up and down the street he raced, a large man on a small bike, seemingly plucked from the circus.
During the ride of the [...]

You ever tell a lie that you just know can’t hurt anybody? In fact, in your mind, it’s for a good cause and nobody but you will ever know you told it?
Less than two weeks ago, I thought all of that too, and it almost worked.
As some readers know, after U.S. Thanksgiving, we had to [...]

Ben slept about 12 hours last night, interrupted only by his mommy and daddy for some medicine.
He awoke with a textbook 98.6 F temperature (that’s 37 C for those so inclined).
Now we’re off to our final Christmas celebration of the year.
Overheard as I’m typing…
Ben: I don’t want to go to Tulsa.
Shannon: You’re going to get [...]

Ben plays with his new voice changer.
Previously in our Christmas Misadventure, road conditions and worn tire tread joined forces to put us in a motel on Christmas Eve. Now, in the final chapter, we arrive home on Christmas day and hope that Santa came down our chimney.
Shannon figured out that Ben and I could drop [...]
