Through the Eye of a Broken Lens

That black ring holds the front element of an older lens that broke a few years ago, and it practically begged me to distinguish its view from the rest of the photo. Yes, Christmas decorations are still in place, but I took this picture on 1/5/2010.

I also used bounce flash to achieve this — my hand and the lens would have blocked a direct flash.

Somewhere in my head there’s a corny line about my world not having color unless my wife is in it, but I’ll not resort to that. What appears to be a black oil slick on the carpet is actually our dog with her back legs spread out flat behind her.

Amazing shot Mark!!!
I had to look 3 times to notice the B/W outside the ring is actually what’s in the ring.

Very intriguing shot, Mark! I’ve sat in that chair and also surfed briefly on that computer (I think), so this is doubly like looking through a lens to me.

Truly amazing shot. Print and frame that one, sir. However, I would say that the photo says more about the color and focus that your wife AND your lenses bring to your world. If you could have worked Ben and a pair of binaurual microphones into the shot, it’d be just about complete.

Dave – Thanks. It even got a response from my wife, so that’s saying something. Recommend a specific competition and I’ll gladly give it a whirl.

Which brings me to your next comment. A possible series is the exact reason I decided not to let Benjamin have that lens piece as a toy, after all.

Really cool picture! Here it is 2/12 and I still have my Christmas tree up if that makes you feel any better.
JuJu has a pink ball hat too. She claims it’s for bad hair days. I call it a fashion statement. Shan evidently uses hers for surfin’ ; )
