Oh, I have no delusions about my ability to deal with extreme heat. I simply don't HAVE that ability. Like the hard-packed icy snow that comprises my heart, I would melt in the weather that is currently accosting our friend in the Lone Star State.

I'll get all manly again once my nose hairs start to freeze.

Si - My Sprint Weather thingy said it was 61. Perhaps it is less reliable than it claims. Regardless, my point stands. It's not a question of which temperature you'd rather have. We'd all rather have 70 degree weather. But that is not the game that Mark is not playing. In the game of "who's the manliest heat dealer-with-er," the Texan wins...were we playing. You just pipe down and let Mark bask in his prowess, your points will come once the snow starts falling (or maybe a few a little later since you can always make that "no AC" claiim if it gets a little warm)

An Alberta winter makes for easy translation since 40 below zero is the same in both scales. Not that it gets that low very often -- maybe once or twice a year. But it's sure fun to see if the car starts on those days!

I'd frikkin' melt on days like you've been having, frankly.

See, in earnest, people really do just want to talk about the weather. I try to compose these deep, philosophical posts (*ahem*), and when I finally just say, "Damn, it's hot!" people can't keep their mouths shut. Or, fingers, rather, but that just sounds weird.

Oddly, it's quite pleasant sitting outside in the shade when it's 80 degrees outside with a light breeze (almost always have a light breeze here). Problem is that lasts only from about 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and for me only on the weekends. But it's glorious while it lasts!

Humidity goes a long way toward making 90 degrees feel worse than 100. I've lived through both. In fact, 80 degrees at 9 p.m., after the sun is down, is downright miserable in 90% humidity or higher.

Regardless of the humidity, the sun will beat one down in short order between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. One what, you ask? One of pretty much anything, I answer.

I still believe I would rather endure a Texas summer than an Albertan winter.

61 degrees? What the hell, it cracked 70 here mid-morning. Where are you getting your numbers? And anyway, I'd rather have 61 than 107 ANY day. It's still T-shirt and shorts weather, only without the threat of imminent death.

As Paris Hilton is so fond of saying..."That's hot."

We've been warm here too. Cooler today after a nice thunderstorm, but up in the 90s with opressive mugginess was the norm last week. And me with three yards to mow....weeee!

But in the end...I think 107 still wins. I mean...if we were competing...which we aren't. But even if it's not a competition, I think we can all still agree...Simon loses (61 degrees up there as I type this. You call that summer?!)

Man we're not missing any of that. We were at the beach all weekend and we couldn't even make it hot there. Sorry.

Jebus H. Crust, Mark. Your low temps are still too hot for me. I can take it as high as 80, but as soon as you start heading north of that, I get too warm. We might hit 86 here a few times a summer, but never for more than a day or two at a time.

If it ever breaks 90, people start heading for basements or air-conditioned shopping malls. The fire hydrants are turned on around the city in an effort to cool the streets, water-bombing air planes drops loads every hour on senior citizens' assisted living homes, ice cream trucks are routinely mobbed, and the sidewalks are littered with kids' shoes whose rubber has melted to the surface.

(Well, the air-conditioning part of that is true at least.)

And a parent on my kid's soccer team suggested a soccer toury there next weekend - not going to happen. Lexington KY is 10 degrees cooler than Dallas on the average.
