Way up there is the backside of Sugarloaf Mountain, where Kenneth Wymer drew his last breath. If you don’t know who he is, then read my latest story, “Bernie,” still unfolding online. Sorry for the spoiler, but it shouldn’t ruin the story.

If you have no idea who Wymer is and don’t care, then just enjoy this photo of the Little Red River and one of the last pictures taken of Winkley Bridge, an historic suspension bridge that fell in a tragic 1989 accident. That’s a story to be told another day.

Phew, I just read that section yesterday. Glad to not have it spoiled and glad to have visuals for my recent read.

The mountain is lovely, but the bridge captivates me a bit more. But then…you probably could have guessed that about me. ;)

Completely unrelated to the topic at hand, but I’ve never done the “an historic” thing. Does it surprise you that this stands out for me in this post over the rest of the details. I mean, really, sometimes I irritate myself with these sorts of useless observations, but I simply can’t help it.

    Sorry. (Sort of.)

That bridge totally has my interest Mark. Any more pics of it? I need to know more about that!

Dave - I shot this pic during my freshman year in college, on a weekend trip back home. About a month later, the suspension bridge no longer was there.

Amy - Yummy, maybe, but heck on your teeth.

Moksha - Glad I didn’t ruin that for you. And glad you’re finally getting caught up (although you’re still woefully and almost unforgivably behind).

Simon - You know, I thought about the “an” when I typed it, and stuck with it. I’ve seen it that way many times and when I was a journalist I learned it was correct. I still don’t like it either, but oh well.

Anna - I have several more pics of this bridge, and some provide a closer perspective. When I write about what happened to it, I’ll use those pics.

Markus…I can’t wait to read the recap. I bet you can find some pretty good stuff online about it too.
