Skyway to Hell
(There’s a new banner picture up for March 2008; force a browser refresh if you don’t see a tiny flying guest in Silhouette.)
I walked into our computer/guest room Sunday night wanting to do two things:
- Download pictures from both cameras
- Post something to my blog
I was pretty sure I had a picture or two I would like, but I was drawing a blank for a blog post.
Until I saw what I thought was a dust speck in the above picture. I zoomed in for a better look.
We live in a community north of Dallas, and planes flying in and out of DFW and Love Field regularly streak the sky with their white trails. We can’t go a full minute without hearing a plane of some sort. They aren’t usually very low when passing, and we typically can’t hear them indoors with the windows closed, but their constant presence makes my geeky outdoor audio and video recordings more challenging.

That sky is breathtaking. Have a good week Mark!
Wow.. nice. I would have never seen it!
You don’t really notice that hummingbird in the banner at first, do ya? It sneaks up on you. Cool.
Dave’s comment made me laugh because now, whenever our wee boys sees something he likes, he gapes over it for a minute and then proclaims in a voice tinged with awe, “Wow… nice!” So really Mark, that’s the perfect comment for both of those pics.
It’s cool how you got the clouds to line up with the houses. Your control over the elements is impressive indeed. The colors are just amazing.
The banner, like Simon says, is cool for the way the brain processes it (mine at least). It took me a second to figure out what th erd shapes were, once I did, I thought, “Then where is the hummingbir….oh, there it is.” Very nic banner
I’m glad for the computer’s help in noticing what slipped by me the first time. I take pictures for a number of reasons, one of which is to encourage me to pause and *look* at what is around me, but even still I miss some details. Your image is lovely and the pause to notice a detail well worthwhile.
That is an awesome picture, Mark! I love how the sky looks like fire!
Thanks for the comment Mark. I know his parents and got his permission to use it on my blog and website! I totally think of those things, although I should get signed permission and not just verbal. :)
Thanks for the reminder!
I love this shot: the composition, color and tone are all so powerful. I especially love how you found that little hidden surprise when you looked more closely. Photography kinda does that: it’s one of the few things in life that can still amaze us.
That is cool….really cool. It almost looks fake. It would have been even cooler had there been some sort of pattern around it that made it look like the nose of the Virgin Mary or something like that though. I know….beggars can’t be choosers, but…just sayin’.
