Five Shots That Time Forgot

Published by Mark Williams at 9:39 pm under Photography

(All those reading “Bernie,” please continue with Part Six, where you’ll find out more about Kenneth Wymer)

Anna challenged us back on January 31 to post five images we’ve never used before and tell a little about each one. I’m a sucker for a meme that doesn’t suck, so here goes. (If I’ve used any of these before, then forgive me now.)

As usual, cleek to make eet beeg.

Taken back in September, 2007, in our living room, above is the seventh picture I snapped with my new Canon a560. I bought it to have something small to use on work trips or any time lugging a DSLR around isn’t convenient.

Unorthodoxed ReclinerBen reclines with a method unorthodoxed. I love using that word, even though it isn’t a word. I snapped this when Alvis and I stopped at Tulsa to stay overnight on our way to Van Halen’s Kansas City show. Ben was there with Shannon and other family. Shannon didn’t like this picture much, but I do. The lighting in that room, with the translucent white drapes on the picture windows, is too good to resist.

On our trip back from Thanksgiving, these stickers adorned an SUV parked at a Wendy’s, home of the Hot ‘n’ Juicy burgers. I love incongruity.

Condom SenseI kept saving this pic (from January 2007) to go with a picture of “Condoms to Go” that I still haven’t shot. I just can’t understand why it needs the modifier “to go.” If I ever make a purchase there, I want to say, “No, don’t bag that up. That’s for here,” and raise my eyebrows at the lady behind the counter. I didn’t enter go inside patronize the store because I was with Alvis when I saw it, and for some reason I didn’t want to visit a condom store with a guy.

Finally, Ben hangs out with his Grammy, in one of their favorite spots — her back yard.

Before anybody gets an attitude about including two pictures of Ben in this collection, consider yourself fortunate that there aren’t more. The camera loves that boy almost as much as we do. (He does have the flu, by the way. He tested positive for it Sunday after a fun night of his fever hitting 103.7 F.)

Ah man…Ben’s still sick. Come on immune system!!

And I’m with you, Mark. I like the picture of reclining Ben.

The bumper sticker picture reminded me of a moment in college when first I heard that wonderful quote from Einstein. I returned from class and immediately shared the quote with my roommate FreddyJ. “Peace cannot be kept by Force,” I said. “It can only be achieved through understanding.” I waited for him to be impressed.

“That’s the dumbest quote I’ve ever heard,” he said with a look of confusion.

    “Wha?!” I stammered.

“I don’t even understand it,” he continued. “Cheese cannot be cut by forks? Was Einstein on drugs or something?”

    :)

I wonder if the guy driving the bumper sticker van has a bag of weed in his glove box??? Sorry, that was the first thing to jump in my head when I read it.
Sad that Ben is sick. It makes me want to cuddle with him, AND since he is miles away it isn’t possible and since I am a stranger it would be probably both weird and in appropriate. Give him a little hug for me will ya???

I’m sorry to hear that about Ben. I figured it was the flu. You better get some Tamiflu and vitamin C and make sure you don’t get sleep deprived for the next few days so that the whole fam doesn’t get it.

Ben’s tough…he’ll be fine. I hate it when they’re sick, because you feel so helpless.

In keeping with Moksha’s comment, that bumper sticker is a little too liberal for me, but I can see its point to an extent. I think peace can be kept through understanding. Understanding that there’s some force waiting to be applied if you don’t keep the peace.

Chuck - tried the Tamiflu, but he puked it up b/c we can’t get him to eat anything. It was quite a mess and we felt just horrible for him. He’s not a puker - probably only done it once or twice in his whole life. He won’t eat today, either, but he seems to feel a lot better and his temp. is down. The doc gave us prescriptions for Tamiflu, too, but we’re not getting them filled unless we start to show symptoms. That stuff’s quite pricey on our insurance!

Amy, I will definitely give him a squeeze from “Auntie Amy in Canada”!

Mark, my mom’s gonna whop you upside the head for posting that picture of her!

Wow… weird. I can not type the apostraphe character or the backslash in here!

Sorry to hear about Ben… hope he gets well soon!

Moksha - I think maybe that friend of yours was on drugs.

Amy - You might be on to something there.

Ben has had lots of hugs in the past few days, and I’m sure at least one of them had your name on it.

Charles - The boy’s temp has been at normal all day today (Monday), so he’s coming around. His last dose of fever reducer was at about 10 a.m., and just a few minutes ago he was still at normal. We’re trying to see how his fever does on its own for a while.

That’s an interesting twist on Einstein’s quote.

Shan - Oops. I thought it showed a cool moment between them. She’ll be here any minute. Maybe we’ll take a pic and see if she likes it better.

    Dave - That’s strange, indeed, because I’m typing them at will / \ ‘ ‘ ‘ \ /. See?

Seriously, though, I’ve seen that before, but I can’t remember what caused it.

  7. Jayon 18 Feb 2008 at 8:47 pm

Poor Ben. I hope he’s feeling better soon.

You gave me the giggles over your eyebrow-raising proposal. I like the little wild streak.

  8. Simonon 19 Feb 2008 at 8:42 am

Einstein had never heard of Jedi back in his day, so he can be forgiven for the quote. It’s really quite a good one, otherwise.

Since there are so many hugs flying about for the wee Ben, you can just give him a chuck on the shoulder for me. (Though why you’d wanna get your brother to sit on your son’s shoulder is quite beyond me. Bah-dum, ching!!)

I also like the pic of reclining Ben. Not that I’m trying to gang up on Shannon or anything. But kids assuming weird postures on furniture seems to be something that they just do.

I’m glad seems to be on the road to wellness. I’m always amazed at how they want to play even when they are sick. When Putt rolls around on the couch and isn’t interested in playing, then we know he’s sick.

I’m not aware of Tamiflu’s cost, but I’m not surprised it’s probably nothing insurance companies want to cover. They don’t want to pay for anything that might prevent something, which makes all kinds of sense to me. Perfect logic….”Let’s not pay for that and just absorb the two extra Dr.s visits, additonal prescriptions, and let them feel miserable and miss work for a few days.” :-)

Those are great Mark! I am so glad that you did it. It was nice to check your blog and see those after a LONG day of driving! :)

I hope that Ben is getting better soon.

    Have a good week!

  11. Daveon 19 Feb 2008 at 4:29 pm

Well, It happens in Firefox, not sure if it happens in IE.

Very disconcerting.. but it also does it on Simons page, so I think it has something to do with your blog writing software as it does not do that anywhere else.

  12. Markon 19 Feb 2008 at 4:39 pm

Jay - You know, I hadn’t thought of it, but it did sound like something you might say/do.

Simon - Oh, you mean the Force? Good one. Or bad, depending on your angle.

Charles - Well, the boy’s fever’s not too bad now and he’s staying at his Grammy’s. Shannon’s in full-blown flu now, with the horrible aches and pains (she just filled her Tamiflu ’scrip today) and I’m going to feed her some dinner, send her to bed, and sleep on the futon!

Anna - Thanks. It was a cool idea you passed along (or conceived?). Ben is getting better now, but Shan feels like she’s been hit by a truck.

Dave - I use Firefox, too.

Really, it’s just a conspiracy to make you sound all prim and proper when you comment!

  13. Annaon 19 Feb 2008 at 9:06 pm

Totally passed it along. :) Tell Shanon I hope that she feels better soon! You should be posting LOTS MORE pics!

  14. Annaon 19 Feb 2008 at 9:41 pm

OK, so I totally made that top shot look that way on purpose. You crack me up! :)

  15. Daveon 20 Feb 2008 at 5:57 am

    *LOL*
