Train Bridge

Okay, so it’s only the bridge, but I heard the train a few times while I was inside working with the customers. I shot these pics last week on my way back from the 3rd Street Deli, a quaint sandwich shop downtown with coat hooks I just had to photograph.

Parkersburg, WV is a small town near the Ohio border, astride the Ohio River. The people I worked with were as nice as any I’ve met. Plus, they gave me a good laugh when they called one of the presidential hopefuls “Mike Huckleberry.”

Coat Hooks on 3rd StreetOn my way out of town, I needed fast food so I could make good time to my hotel room in Columbus. Have you ever seen a Captain D’s that serves mahi mahi? Tilapia? Until then, I hadn’t. I went for the standard fish and chips.

Without going into detail, I’ll just say that the trip was rough, one of those that makes you happy they don’t all go that way. I was very glad our company has a great travel department that handles all airfare, lodging, and rental car arrangements. I make one phone call and all of it is arranged. I feel like the Godfather or something.

Except usually nobody gets killed.

I like how you say “usually” at the end. I betcha Shannon loves the thought that there’s always the possibility of getting killed.

If only he’d known that he wasn’t supposed to photograph those particular coat hooks!!

Well, I guess the bad trips serve as good comparisons to make you appriciate the good ones. Or, at least that’s what I used to tell myself to avoid insanity.

I like the top shot. I like the lines on the bottom one, but the top one has a real sense of place to it that I like. The presence of those two folks crossing the street make it clear that this old stonework is a backdrop for real people’s lives. It’s a nice touch.

Also, I want to apologize for being behind on Bernie. I plan on catching up today if I can. I hate ignoring a friend’s fiction and wanted to make it clear that it’s not for lack of interest.

Dave - There were lots of neat old structures in Parkersburg. The downtown area still thrives (or thrives again, maybe).

    Simon - I couldn’t resist the hooks.

Moksha - The good definitely outweigh the bad.

I like the top photo the best, too, for exactly the same reason. Really, though, for me both pictures had a sense of “I could get run over out here in the middle of the street.” Drivers had a good view both ways, though, so I wasn’t too worried about it.

Don’t worry about “Bernie.” You’ll get it read, I’m sure.
