Kid Cubes (Pic of the Week)

I wish they would have had these pits when I was a kid. Just last weekend, when I finally got to see one, there was some lame rule about nobody older than 18 using the equipment. I stood there in my sock feet and sulked for about three seconds, then went about my assigned business of taking pictures with Shannon’s camera. I know she uses it when I’m not around, so what gives?

I first named this post “The Pit of The Square,” as a tribute to The Princess Bride’s Pit of Despair, but then realized these were cubes.

Note — The child in the picture is not Ben, but his friend N. Alas, Ben had to miss this birthday party due to illness. His grammy watched him for a while so we could represent our family.

And eat cake.

Ahh… my all time favorite movie… The Princess Bride…

    “Fezzik, are there rocks ahead?
If there are, we”ll all be dead!

Stop that rhyming, I mean it!
    Anybody got a peanut?”

I could go on and on all day… *LOL*

I guess that would make you a M.O.U.S. then, wouldn’t it?

That’s why you weren’t allowed into the cube pit. Too bad that just being a big kid at heart doesn’t count, eh? And that really is a fabulous movie. One of the few I could watch several times in a single day and enjoy it each time.

I love the picture. I know everyone is having a good time, but everyone’s face looks as if what is happening is far more serious than it is. The kid looks scared, the lady behind looks concerned, the dad look stern. It makes me imagine this.

I must agree that movie is at the top of my list of favorites. I don’t call one film my favorite because they’re all so different, but The Princess Bride definitely stands the test of time and holds up under repeated viewings. Classic, and so quotable!

“Joo keel my father. Prepare to die.”

I get all choked up every time Inigo delivers his final line to the six-fingered man: “I want my father back, you sonofabitch.”

See? I just did, just from typing that and imagining the scene. I tried to avoid spoiling it too much for anybody who hasn’t seen it (and you are who, again?).

Moksha - I think that’s my first time to have a picture photo-chopped by someone besides me! It’s a great one, by the way. The look on N’s face and the direction of his gaze fit perfectly! Anybody who hasn’t clicked Moksha’s link, please do.

Glad you liked it. I had to force myself not to go all detail geek on the cropping. It’s a slap-dash deal, but enough to get the joke and the best I could do in the few minutes I could spare at work.

As to the Princess Bride, quoting that movie got me and my friend Matt through junior high gym class. I just remember endlessly jogging around the track trading quotes back and forth in an attempt to make the hour go faster. It tended to work.

Markus…cool picture. Have you seen those BMX stunt guys doing all sorts of air stunts during practice and landing in those foam pits? That looks like fun! They’re even doing it on Motorcycles now too.

“The Princess Bride” What a great film. That thing is old, but it could release at the theater tomorrow, and I think it would do well with the younger generation who probably haven’t seen it. It’s timeless….and hilarious.

“Are you on the brute squad? I am the brute squad.”

For the record, I hate stupid rules! :) I totally would have jumped into that and made a case for why I look under 18!

    Have a good weekend Mark!

Just for the record, I did not eat cake - I ate a Weight Watchers muffin instead! Yay for me. I don’t want to get credit for eating cake when I didn’t let myself indulge in it.

Top of the muffin to ya, Shannon!

Muffin’s are good too, and at least it wasn’t a salad or carrots or something really boring like that.

How funny. I miss the days someone could bodily pick me up and throw me! Look at the expression on that little guy’s face :)

I looove this picture!! (For those of you that don’t know, that’s my son and husband in that picture!) I do have to say though, that my son was a little disturbed by the shark trying to eat him!! ;o) He kept asking why that shark was there, and what he was doing, and why he was trying to eat him. I though it was hilarious, myself!

Mark…well done! You are correct sir, you have put the pieces of the puzzle together correctly. I did indeed discover your blog through Anna’s web site. I sure am glad I did. What a great blog. You are already on my list of links so I can easily pop over and check out what’s happening here.

Thanks for visiting. I look forward to keeping up with the happenings in the life of you and your family. Fun times. Challenging but fun!

As you said our families did it in reverse. I’m 41 and my wife is 43 and empty nesting is allready in our sights. In 2 1/2 years our youngest son will be in college. I can allready see my wife and I beginning to adjust to the concept not too far in our future. You have to re-discover one another as independent people, not only your children’s parent.

I believe that is definitely one reason we have become so passionate about riding (and touring when possible) our Gold Wing. It is a common interest and there is definitely a bond formed there. When the two of us are off and riding…able to chat via the headphones in our helmets… I imagine it is sort of similar to what a ocean going cruise must feel like.

My apologies for the long comment.
