Naked Firefighting Ephesians

Recently I happened to see a user’s Inbox. The two most recent e-mails had the following subject lines:

  • Ephesians 3:20
  • Naked Fireman Calendar 2008

It’s always fun to see seemingly competing moral messages in juxtaposition, and even more fun to imagine whether the sender was the same for each e-mail above.

For all those (including me) who don’t have that particular Bible verse memorized, here it is without the completion of the thought, just as referenced above (New International Version):

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,”

To make it more modern, let’s say, “him or her.” If we were talking about firefighters in general, then that verse would fit well. They certainly do things that most of us can only imagine.

Today’s discussion, however, covers a more specific niche — the naked fireman. This begs a less reverent approach.

I didn’t see the text of either e-mail, but in the spirit of the Biblical tone set by the quoted scripture, let’s imagine the wording for the second one.

“Now to him who is able to lift his huge hose and spray all our belongings, depending on the pressure that has welled up within it,”

I’ll stop there for fear of being burned at the stake as a blasphemer. The floor is open, of course, for other possibilities.

Coincidentally, I fell asleep Sunday night on the recliner, and when I awoke more than an hour (and a backache) later, I tuned the Dish receiver to PBS in the event Shannon might want to turn on the television for Ben in the morning. There was a show on called “Monty Python’s Personal Best.” The first sketch up was “Epilogue,” and it featured a priest and an atheist. Instead of discussing the existence of God, the two had agreed to fight for it. I immediately remembered the draft for the above and came here to post it.

If anyone knows who won the bout, then please share. Naked firefighters are depending on you.

    What ever happened to the good ole days, when kids used to get up and go watch The 3 Stooges, or Bugs Bunny/Road Runner cartoons????

    PBS??? *sigh*

    Ben’s going to grow up not knowing what a fake eye-poke is.. or a nyuck nyuck!
    He’ll never understand why The Acme Company sells less than perfect rockets, nor that it’s Duck season, not Wabbit season!

    A look at the PBS Schedule shows:

    “Nature: The Seedy Side of Plants”
    “Live From Lincoln Center”
    “Masterpiece Theatre: Jane Eyre”
    and finally:
    “Great Performances: We Love Ella!”

    Where’s the fun? Where’s the eye-poking nyuck nyuck’s????

    PBS indeed… he’s not 40 you know! *LOL*

    Dave - You’d be surprised how hard it is to find those classic cartoons on the TV these days. But, since you so deftly pointed out PBS’s night time schedule, I must counter with this morning’s offering on our local PBS station:

    Arthur
    Sesame Street
    Curious George
    Clifford the Big Red Dog

    Not to mention Mr. Rogers (which is always worth mentioning).

    Anywho, you get the idea. I’m not 40 yet, either, by the way!

    That sounds like something Ryan would say! hahahaha! Great job on all of the use of adjectives! =)

    I am not a PBS fan, I like the kid shows on it, but as for everything else, I do not like it.

    You know I am not 30 yet!!!! ;)

    I don’t know who won that fight, Mark, but you finished off the year with one of the best post titles ever!
