Stack of Kin-Lings (Pic of the Week)

Four-year-old Benjamin hangs on atop a mass of various cousins on Thanksgiving.
See if you can follow this. The one completely face-down with gray pants is Benjamin’s first cousin, only son of the Charles who comments here. He’s five weeks younger than Benjamin. The kid on the bottom, second son of my first cousin J, is seven years old. Holding up this writhing mass of humanity is my first cousin’s only son, a college sophomore. His young back held firm under all the weight, but his svelte form provided few holds for the climbing kiddies. The boys were fresh off a wrestling session with my larger, considerably stronger cousin, J (mentioned above).
This is in large part what Thanksgiving is all about. We’ve all gone outside several times to explore my parents’ property, finding all manner of interesting things for the boys to play on. They climbed into a flat-bottom boat still on its trailer, where they played pirates. There were two little girls at Thanksgiving, but the one who joined us wasn’t quite big enough to hoist herself aboard. In our family, my generation has its fair share of tomboys, so it’s only natural to believe that tradition will continue.
It was a great day filled with food and family.
How was your Thursday (whether it was Thanksgiving or not?)

Friends, family, dogs (who got into it only occasionally), kids (who were always into it), and food. Butch bit Rhonda, Butch bit Shadow, Bebe bit Shadow, and I didn’t bite anyone. Poor Shadow. She just wants to play.
Turkey for breakfast this morning.
I like the background bearded grin in that picture. Reminiscing but not participating in such fool-hardy tomfoolery and rambunctiousness. Fun!
Thursday? Uh, lemme see…
I went to work.
Came home and had dinner with the nuclear family.
Let the boys watch Jungle Book AGAIN after supper.
Started laundry (overdue, since our washer-dryer pair have been unplugged the past few days while the drywallers finished up).
Performed the 45 minute ritual of dual bath and bed times.
(45 minutes is just a rough guess for the two lads.)
Changed loads of laundry.
Washed the dishes.
Drove to the liquor store in my pyjamas because Amy wanted some Bailey’s in her hot cocoa while watching Ugly Betty.
I shared in hot cocoa & Bailey’s, and performed two Tim-Tam Slams.
(YUMMY!)
Gave my wife a peppermint lotion footrub on the couch (still with the Ugly Betty here).
Checked my email one last time and read a chapter of Don Quixote before nodding off to sleep.
Was that too much detail for you?
Pops - I’ve never not wanted to have Thanksgiving with you, but right now I’m glad we don’t. Ouch!!
Simon - Shannon says you treat Amy great, and that I should take a cue from you. So, cut that shit out. ;-)
Wow, quiet here, huh?
I *might* cut that shit out a little bit, but I guess I shouldn’t mention that I gave her a backrub in bed that same night too, eh? And no, it wasn’t a down payment on hanky panky that night.
There is no cutting shit out of anything. Mark remember the quote ” If mom isn’t happy… No-one is happy”. That really needs to be pinned up in every house hold. Moms everywhere should be treated as well as me. Husbands every where should follow Simon’s lead. You are welcome ladies.
Simon and Amy - Well aren’t you two just a match made in Heaven? Oh, excuse me, I think I just puked.
Sorry Mark. I didn’t mean to make you sick. You know how I love to exaggerate. You know that, don’t you???But, I do have it pretty good. I don’t have too many friends that wouldn’t trade their husbands in for a Simon clone.
I am sure Shannon has a friend or two that wouldn’t trade their husbands in for a Mark clone. But I really don’t know you THAT well.
Mark is indeed a wonderful hubby and daddy - I wouldn’t trade him for any other man (most of the time)! I think I would be in a mental institution by now if it weren’t for him and his support & unconditional love. Now who’s puking? ;-)
I had a great Thanksgiving thank you..!
Looks like you had a great one too… family, there’s nothing like it to make you feel good around the holidays!
Wow, I step away for a few days and and a full family discussion erupts in my absence.
Thanksgiving itself was wonderful. The rest of the “break” was a bit depressing. Had to work Friday and Saturday due to the expected customer rush that never came :( Moonshot got sick Thursday, toughed her way through it for her family and then collapsed Friday. She spent all day yesterday in bed trying to shake it but was still feeling pretty crappy when I left for work this morning.
However, in the spirit of the conversation, I’ll have it be known that I brought her meals in bed and did my best to treach Little Lu to tip toe about the house so Mommy could sleep.
Oh, almost forgot. I love the picture. Its hard to tell where one kid stops and the other begins.
Shannon, that phrase, “most of the time” is an iconic element of the relationship I have with my wife. In fact, I blogged about it specifically just about exactly two years ago.
