Ben Not Quite Kenobi

Published by Mark Williams at 11:30 pm under Movies and TV

But he’s getting there. It’s kind of funny that he has a friend named “Owen,” and I think one named “Luke” now, too. (Owen is Luke’s uncle, and Ben is Obi-Wan, the old dude who trains Luke in the first movie, for all you aficia-not-o’s.)

I don’t want to make it seem like our boy only likes movies. He often plays with cars, trucks, dinosaurs, and makes up voices for them while they interact with each other. Plus, I read to him every night before his bedtime (unless it’s his mommy’s night), and occasionally at random times throughout the day.

It just so happens that Star Wars stuff is flashier, and that’s why I have the following videos.

You might need to wait several seconds after clicking the “play” button. Enjoy!

    Best use of “aficia-not-o’s” EVER!!

I’m proud of you for that, and I’m ever prouder of Ben for his burgeoning knowledge of that galaxy far, far away…

Of course Sebulba can’t catch Anakin Skywalker!

Nice. Do they have an AP pre-school class? Ben can read particularly well for his age. :-)

I caught a portion of the AFI’s (American Film Institute), list of top 100 movies of all time. I only caught the last 10, and Star Wars wasn’t on there. I tried to find the list online from their site, but naturally it makes you register, which is likely just another direct link to junk e-mailers. I was just curious to know where Star Wars fell. I think it is truly one of the greatest movies ever, and has perhaps the most well defined “good vs. evil” theme ever created on film. Surely it was top 25 or so?

“The Godfather” was second, and I need to watch that movie again. I haven’t seen it in almost 20 years now, and I’m sure I’ve forgotten parts of it. I only saw it once. Pretty strange for someone who was an absolute freak for “Soprano’s.”

    UDATE: New banner for October.

Simon - Has “aficia-not-o” been used before? Oh well, it figures.

We watched the first movie on Friday movie night, but didn’t get all the way through it. We finished it up today. He’s been playing pod race all weekend, but when he asked to watch the pod race today I told him, “No, we can’t watch whatever we want whenever we want.” Instead, we took a nice bike ride around the neighborhood. Of course, Ben worked in some SW lingo, when he said, “I’m not going fast like a pod racer.”

Charles - Yeah, that “reading” was top-notch! He had done it once or twice by the time I got the video camera out and asked him to do it again. It wasn’t nearly as cute the third or fourth time.

For Benjamin I always read aloud the rolling text at the beginning, and the subtitled dialogue (Greedo and Jabba).

I found AFI’s list for free. I watched all of that list on TV several years ago, and I was pleasantly surprised at some of the picks.

Star Wars clocked in at No. 15.

NOTE: Firefox blocked two pop-up windows at the link above, but they’re probably harmless. Still, if you have the option for pop-up blocking, you might want to turn it on.

    Loved the second video… hilarious!

Yeah, Star Wars should be in the top 5 even. The GodFather did nothing for me…. I think it got that high just because of who’s in it.

Mark, no, I’ve never seen that particular use of “aficia-not-o”. Which is what impressed me so much about it. Some things can *only* be expressed properly in the written word.

Great new banner for October, as well. That is one mean looking pigeon up there!

I second the comment on the banner. Wow. But I think it is a dove.

Dave - I think The Godfather is dated, and that’s it’s main drawback when I try to watch it these days. I got bored and watched something else.

Simon - Good. I searched for it and didn’t find it anywhere. I have another that I think is an original. At least, I’ve never heard it before. Coming soon.

Lenny (and Simon) - That bird is the crimson-beaked deathbringer. Very rare.

But, seriously, before anybody asks, I didn’t do anything to make the background look like that. There was black mesh above the birds to keep them from flying away, and it made a funky pattern in the usual blurred background.

Wicked birdage in your banner. Was that at the Zoo? I don’t remember that one.

I’ll have to revisit the list when I have some time. I just couldn’t believe some of the choices. I just remember that for the part that I managed to see (which was intermittent), it seemed like Jimmy Stewart was in every one of them. Strange.

I’m hoping to catch “Fracture” tonight on PPV. I’ve heard it’s really good. We had a chance to go see whatever we wanted Saturday night for date night, but we couldn’t even see anything we were interested in seeing for $9.50 apiece. Instead, we got hammered on Margarita’s. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but the next morning A didn’t seemed to have developed some regrets. Maybe the headache and queasy stomach had something to do with that? :-)

Charles - Yep, it was a zoo bird. I shot that after you guys had moved on ahead during one of my longer photo stops.

Ouch! hammered on margaritas, huh? Reminds me of a story I have from this weekend. But that one has to wait.

Isn’t that the “clue bird” from Simon of Space?

When you first mentioned Luke and Owen, my first thought was of the Dallas-native Wilson brothers. Go figure.
