In Protest of Wordless Wednesday

Because Wordless Wednesday really isn’t held on Wednesday, I’m protesting. It’s more a Tuesday afternoon and evening activity, with just a few stragglers posting anywhere near or beyond midnight. Wednesday proper? A rarity. Yes, I know the Internet is international, but most of the participants I’ve seen are in the USA, and time zones aren’t so varied here to warrant such divergence from the meme’s theme. In fact, more common is an American user simply called “Rhonda,” who posted at 11:21 A.M. Tuesday.

This group of pictures contains words, so I found it appropriate to the cause. Caught beside Highway 69 in southern Oklahoma, about an hour north of the Texas border.

I fully agree with you ! This morning (wednesday) at 6 am !!! I was the 211 person ! I didn’t know that the Americans switched to Australian time. Maybe they just don’t want to be behind all other countries ??

I agree, I suppose I should put it up before I go to bed which is not normally until 1am, but I never think about it until the next morning. I usually read from the most recent back, so never get as far as the early ones.

Nice pictures nonetheless… although, all 3 are a bit dark. On purpose? (or is it my eyes)?

You’re probably fighting a losing battle! Nice shots, I love these fruit stands that you find dotted around the States. Great site by the way - good to see another “daddy blog”.

I try to stick with the theme, which is why I am in the 400s, I suppose

Mmmm… I love me some open peaches.

*snort* Uh, oh, umm, sorry… what was that??

YES!! Fruit! Delicious stiff, I mean stuff. Did you notice how uniformly those baskets of tomatoes were stacked? I admire uniformity like that. All right then. Back about your business.

I’m having my own protest against WW…I just ain’t doing it. Ok, it’s not so much a protest so much as it’s an oddity with our webserver during the move that is keeping me from uploading new pics. But that should be over soon. And then, by god, I’ll protest.

I love the pictures, Mark. But I’m dying to know the end of that sentence. What do tomatoes squash? What?!

  8. Simonon 26 Sep 2007 at 9:32 am

    “Tomatoes squash…”

    …home boys?

    …honey bees?

    …homeless goats?

    …homeopaths?

Yes, Wordless Wednesday is rather silly since it’s neither wordless, nor is it on Wednesday usually.

Still, it let me find your blog!

I like your photos with the words in them, that’ll show those silly Talkative Tuesday photo!

Guilty as charged! Maybe it’s the newspaper writer in me.

Then, too, I but a new mag in August and it’s dated October. What’s that?

Sometimes I come to the WW site during the week to visit photos I missed.

So I’ll take a tomato in the face. Every other day I’m a real peach, though.

I tend to post on Tuesday night before bed, assuming that most folks post Tuesday but browse and wander and comment on Wednesday. That’s what I do.

And ya know, when I DO post on tuesday, I post date it so my blog will say I did it on Wednesday. heh heh heh…

Feel free to come support me today, though! I PICKED my picture on Wednesday, Photoshopped it on Wednesday, and POSTED it on Wednesday!

    YAY!!

  12. Dianaon 26 Sep 2007 at 2:50 pm

    I agree…WW starts too early…but it’s fun anyway!

  13. Angela Klockeon 26 Sep 2007 at 5:06 pm

If only the WW hub wouldn’t open for link posting until it’s officially Wednesday… le sigh

Your pics aren’t too dark for me. :D

All you WW’ers - Thanks for dropping by and, if not supporting the protest, at least understanding it. Or at least acting like you do. You wouldn’t want to ruffle any feathers and possibly prevent someone from clicking over to your site, now would you?

OK, maybe that was a little too cynical, and a touch flippant. Still, there’s some validity in there.

No, it isn’t a pressing issue or a particularly worrisome one, but I like to call things what they are, and Wordless Wednesday ain’t either one.

Why can’t more people just not type anything describing their picture or video? Why? Why?

  15. Markon 26 Sep 2007 at 6:05 pm

Simon, Moksha, and Dave - You guys rock. Yay for regulars at Regular Life!

  16. Omaha Mamaon 26 Sep 2007 at 6:42 pm

It really is a race, isn’t it? This’ll show ‘em!

  17. meeyauwon 26 Sep 2007 at 8:20 pm

I know what you mean! When do these people do it? At work? I am always feeling like a straggler here. But that’s OK, I really enjoy doing this. And if I do it earlier, then I have to move up my Tuesday thing into Monday.

I love the irony of your “ww” photos!

  18. Markon 26 Sep 2007 at 9:03 pm

    Simon - Tomatoes Squash Hondas

Omaha Mama - Kind of like fighting City Hall, I’m afraid.

meeyauw - You’ve been back around her a few times. You’re almost becoming a regular, too. Besides you, I think Gattina’s the only other WW’er who’s commented here before.

Not that there’s anything wrong with first-time visitors.

  19. Markon 26 Sep 2007 at 10:35 pm

Moksha - I deleted your last comment on the banner pic, because after my WordPress upgrade, my theme reverted back to its default stock photo up there. The theme also was upgraded, so it took me a few minutes to find the place to change the banner.

I absolutely have to be missing something. I don’t get it. If the pictures are to be viewed on Wednesday, and people want to make sure that the early crowd who might only view before work will get to see them, then I don’t see the harm in posting them late Tuesday, or even Tuesday evening. Unless it is strictly related to the idea that it represents Wednesday and the picture was actually taken on THAT Wednesday…I don’t get it.

I guess I understand the “wordless” part, because I assume the point is to share something interesting without an explanation. That will likely create more interesting comments.

    Clue me in….

  21. Markon 26 Sep 2007 at 10:52 pm

Charles - I definitely understand your point, and there’s nothing wrong with posting Tuesday evening, because not everybody can post at midnight or early Wednesday morning before work (although a LOT of the WW participants obviously are stay-at-homes of some variety or another). It’s just that when you go to post your Wordless Wednesday entry at 10 p.m. on Tuesday night and 260 people already have posted, you’ve kind of missed the boat on a lot of the interactivity that the whole thing is supposed to encourage in the first place. When people start posting at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning (and that is the trend lately), it becomes something else entirely. Everybody who participates understands what I mean.

hmmm it doesn’t help that whoever runs the site posts the post early. Too bad they didn’t make the post at 12 am…or even noted not to post earlier than a wednesday.

Yet, it doesn’t really bother me. But that’s just me. I’m just trying to look at it from your point of view…and babbling. *L*

Now, if people starting posted a couple of days earlier than it would be kinda pathetic. I’m just thinking timezones, even though you did mention some people in the US still doing it.

I guess if you really wanted to do something about it you could email WW and suggest not posting until Wednesday (unless you have already)? But be nice. I love WW (lol).
