No Plans and Loving It

Fawn Lake (photo by Shannon - click to enlarge)
Our first night there, before we go to bed, Shannon sets her two pill keepers on top of the kitchen’s knife holder. You know, the kind of pill keeper one might associate with octogenarians, lettered for each weekday? The knife holder features a tilt-down door.
“I wouldn’t set [...]

Amarillo’s Where I’ll Be

Published by Mark Williams under Red River 2007, Travel

(Click here to read about the first day of our trip to Red River, New Mexico.)
A thick stench fills my nose when I open our room to the morning air.
Cattle feed lots and their resulting dung dunes surround Amarillo. For the uninitiated, a feed lot crams all the beef cattle it can into the smallest [...]

First is Worst (we hope)

Published by Mark Williams under Red River 2007, Travel

Our ingenious plan to pack almost nothing the night before our trip worked like a charm. We left at 5:25 p.m. a week ago Saturday instead of our target two o’clock. Before you ask, we can’t teach anyone how to do this. It just flows out of us naturally.
At a mere six hours, we still [...]

Big Pile of Sand (Pic of the Week)

Look at the other people (in the background) for some size perspective. This is truly an incredible place to visit. I’m sorry my trip wrap-up has to wait. Internet time is limited here. Next week’s posts promise lots of scenery [...]

Shannon and the Grand Tetons
My wife and I were less than 60 miles from one of the world’s most scenic places, but didn’t go.
Less than 60 miles.
What were we thinking?
I’ve never been one to follow the big crowds, and I don’t do things just because they’re popular. To that end, sometimes I’m so stubborn I [...]

Adventures with My Dad (Pic of the Week)

Distant peek at the Blue Hole (cropped — click for bigger and better).

Zip line fun at Blue Hole.
I never liked hunting with my dad. I never cared to have a beer with him. Despite his love for both those activities (but never simultaneously), they just weren’t things I shared with him.
Nor with anyone else. You [...]

An inflatable Statue of Liberty on a Plano lawn. Notice Chevy’s Americanized logo on the front of the truck.

Pic by Ben, on his first trip outside with his new Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera. I’m already impressed with his composition skills. More of Ben’s pics (and mine) follow after the [...]
