looks peaceful and serene :) Happy WW.
Lovely pictures. Yes, does look very peaceful. Thanks for sharing it.
Today my WW is all about the THE MEN IN MY LIFE Enjoy :-)
Love nature pics. Were you on a hike?
What really neat pics!!!
I love the browns and greens…very peaceful Mark. And I can almost here the waterfall and the sound of the creek. Very nice!
*hear* the waterfall…… :)
I presume this is in Texas. You have some great scenery there.
Very nice… the first pic looks like the water’s falling on the person!
Cool series, Mark. Very peaseful. Where were these taken?
Everybody - I took these in my home state of Arkansas, at a place called Tea Kettle Falls. Seeing this area requires a hike, either on foot or by horse, and the drive to get to the “trailhead” is over a washed-out dirt road.
In other words, usually we had the place to ourselves. These horse riders were an interesting change for us, and provided some neat photographic opportunities (horses crossing a clear-running stream, etc. — no, not the trickle above the falls).
What you can’t see (I’ll have to cover this area in another post with more pics) is that the water goes down that shoot into a small bowl-shaped area and then shoots out a hole in the rock. Did everybody notice that my hiking buddy built a little dam and then when he broke it I took a pic of the water rushing out? A second look should reveal the difference in the falls.
I don’t think the horse allowed the guy to guide him under the falls, but they got pretty close.
I almost forgot! There’s a site by a guy I know, and right now he has lots of waterfalls on his main journal page. It’s kind of like a blog, but he doesn’t call it that. He writes all the trail guides I use for Arkansas, and publishes calendars and books of his photos from more than 30 years as a nature photographer (and still going strong).
To see some of his amazing photos (waterfalls are highlighted on the May journal), just click the link below.

TOP:
“Hey Clive…”
“Yeah, Earl?”
“Best stick t’the trail. I wouldn’a get too close to them rocks if I’s you.”
“And why’s that Ear….. *splutter, cough, gasp!*… What the…!!”
“Cuz god likes to pee on folk ’round here.”
Cool. I totally missed the story aspect of the pictures. Was taking them simply as individual shots. They were cool before…they’re even cooler now. Thanks for the explanation.
Arkansas, huh? Who’d have thunk it–my mother lived there for years and she only showed me the Bingo hall–honestly! Happy WW
Simon - Nice caption work.
Moksha - I was hoping everybody would notice the story told. I understand, however, that most stopping by today will be WW’ers just doing a “drive-by” viewing.
But regulars (and smart fellers) like you? I just don’t know what to think now. I’m hanging my head for you.
Stacey - Arkansas is one of the best-kept secrets of hikers and backpackers from all around. Here’s to fly-over states!
Is there gold in them thar hills?
I seen some of them thar areas in Arkansas, but not that one in particular. Yes, there certainly is some beautiful country up there.
And the pictures are nice, too….
I feel such chagrin. What? I do…. Why would you assume I’m just pretending? ;)
Yeah, it seems perfectly clear now…but in my defense, I didn’t realize that we’re looking at the same waterfall. And I didn’t realize that the hands were building the dam. Given these two misses…the story didn’t make much sense.
Anyway, sorry I let you down.
Don’t feel so bad, Moksha - I had no idea what the H*** was going on either.
Wow those are lovely.
Beautiful! That is my kind of place- I love off-the-beaten-path type areas like that :)
Hi! Just read what you wrote on my blog…
“Please, consider changing your theme so that it doesn’t put black text on a dark brown background. I can barely read it. It probably would be much better on my CRT vs. my laptop screen, but just sayin’. ”
That’s strange…I wonder if it just wasn’t completely loaded up yet on your screen? I don’t have black on a dark brown background…there should be orange trim with white background behind the black writing. The brown background is behind everything, but all black writing is on white so that it is easy to read. At least that’s how it appears to me on my screen! LOL You’re the first to mention it- I hope it isn’t showing up that way to everyone.
Geez Mark. Tormenting that poor girl. I went over there and her page is exactly as she describes. I have no idea what you saw.
So…I think you need to change your design so that you’re not using flashing purple text on a green background. It really hurts my eyes ;)
Hey, I’m a Wordless Wednesday person doing a drive-by, and perhaps your blog is too deep for us? You are a systems engineer….well that explains it. Nice pictures though and looked like it was a great time. Just ribbing you a bit, so don’t take me serious. Nobody else does. Happy WW. :)
I tried it in IE and in Firefox — same result. Even waited until it said it was finished loading. Hmm… maybe work is blocking something that’s vital to her design, but I can’t imagine what. Usually it’s just stylesheets.
Purple contrasts very well against green, so simmer down, MG.
Uh, it’s just like she said from here, too, babe. Don’t know what’s wrong with your computer! Did you get enough sleep last night?
I just figured it out. It’s photobucket. My work blocks sites like that, and that’s where your banner and your post background come from (simple View | Page Source shows that). Whew! Now I know I’m not crazy!
Well…
Hmmm….I looked at this the other night, and I knew quickly that the water was being blocked in a “before and after’ type of picture.
However, I misread the situation. I thought you got there and there was a natural blockage that might have been the result of a hard rain that lodged debris against a larger rock, and blocked the stream. Then when it was cleared, it allowed the water to continue down to the falls.
I didn’t realize that it was done manually in an attempt to increase the flow over the falls for a brief moment in time.
Pretty clever trick Grasshoppa.
Mark…have you posted pictures of my favorite waterfall? The one that is unique…and required some interesting teamwork photography to get?
That one would be a really good one to post and explain on a wordless Wednesday after everyone posted their comments. But…regardless of the great Photography ideas, it can’t compare with being there.
