To Doubt Embarrassment (Pic of the Week)

Shannon shows her beak.
Shannon’s mom and stepdad take us out for her birthday, just the five of us, each year. Last year, our server made her shake her moneymaker with a Hula Hoop. This time around, she put on a beak and flapped her wings while the whole restaurant sang “Happy Birthday.” Only the video [...]

Generosity Killed the Sourpuss

I’m coming clean. Up ’til now, I’ve been saying that the in-laws were “making us a deal” on a car they intended to trade in toward the purchase of a new one. To a point, that was the complete truth. We were going to plunk down some cash from our reserves to buy the car [...]

After 14 Years

Ben in sheer joy mode. (more pics and a video later in post)
The wife and I celebrated our 14th anniversary on Tuesday. Well, we did half of the celebration. I picked out a bouquet of flowers online, then called a local florist to have [...]

Top 14 List (Other Meanings)

Published by Mark Williams under General Thoughts

Sometimes, an innocuous phrase makes me laugh under my breath. I can’t help it. It’s like a switch I can’t turn off, but sometimes wish I could. Whether it’s a pun, double entendre, or a combination, my mind notices it and won’t let it slide. In the English language, two words together can sound like [...]

National Night Out of Your Mind (Pic of the Week)

Published by Mark Williams under Kids, True Story

(readers of Falcon go find the continuing saga up in here)

Ben and his mommy stroll in the shallow section of our neighborhood pool.
National Night Out occurs once a year. It’s a time for the neighborhood residents to gather and, well, be neighborly. There’s ample opportunity to sign up for the various volunteer committees, including safety, [...]

Breaking the Contour

Published by Mark Williams under True Story

About a month ago, I took my car to a local mechanic. It had been slipping, I told him. He checked the transmission fluid and said it looked a little low, then topped it off. When I asked what I owed him, he said, “Oh, don’t worry about that. Just remember me the next time [...]

Trip not from Hell, But an Occasional Visitor

Published by Mark Williams under Kids, True Story

(readers of Falcon may click here for Part 13)
Our drive to Arkansas didn’t go exactly as I predicted. In fact, Ben never grabbed a urinal at all. We left Friday at about the same time I normally arrive at work, instead of about 30 minutes after I get home.

First Best Friend (Reclaiming Sole Possession of the Title)

Published by Mark Williams under True Story

Midway through eighth grade, I moved back to my hometown and picked up again with Jason and Chris. By then all of us had kissed girls, and were impressed by them. Each of us lived in a different spot miles outside of town, so seeing each other or girls always depended upon parents’ transportation.
Jason and [...]

On Dads (Pic of the Week)

Published by Mark Williams under General Thoughts

(I wrote and posted Part 12 of Falcon. It slows things down a bit and reminds the reader what the heck’s going on. Enjoy.)
Ben and I are leaving early Friday morning, because work duties dictated that I take that day off instead of Monday. All the better for me. I have a tough time driving [...]
