Pterodactyl Ptickler in Wainy Weather

Published by Mark Williams at 10:10 pm under Kids, True Story

“Ben, what kind of dinosaur can fly?”

“A pterodactyl.”

I’m proud that he nailed that one, but I’m pretty sure he has no idea there’s a silent “p” at the beginning. Oh well. Baby steps.

“That’s right, Ben. What sound does a pterodactyl make?”

“Tweet tweet.”

Hmm… flies like a bird, so it must sound like a bird. Yep, makes perfect sense considering the facts within his grasp (we all know the correct answer is “ptweet ptweet.”) Just the fact that he uses logic amazes me. This toddler gets more and more human every day, and smarter. I fear that the day he first outsmarts me will come before I’m ready. I don’t mean just pulling a fast one on me. Dumb people trick smart people all the time. I mean literally having more brainpower.

Now, if we can just instill in him that actually applying that brainpower is the key to this whole success in life thing, we’ll be getting somewhere. Oh, and somehow keep him from applying it in so many different directions that he dilutes its potency. That would help, too. Do as I say, not as I do, right?

Downwight Cwuddy

Looking through the blinds to the rain-soaked back yard, I say, “It’s rainy outside. It’s very wet out there, Ben.”

“It’s a cwuddy day, Daddy.”

I reach down and tussle his red hair.

“Yes, Ben, it’s a cruddy day.”

I’m looking forward to the rain myself. Though if I stand under the icicles drooping over my eaves I can close my eyes and pretend a little bit.

Feeling frozen up there, Simon? If it makes you feel better, we will hit the freezing mark later this week, and forecasters have warned everybody to cover up the flowers that have already bloomed. Nah, I didn’t think that would work.

Heh… today it got up to about 38 degrees down here … (that’s Celsius! about 100 deg. F)

I wouldn’t mind a little of that cool weather myself!

“Just wait a little while, the weather will change.” Oh, how I hate that expression and ones like it.
