The Spice of Life

Published by Mark Williams at 9:54 pm under Kids

I’ve heard variety is the spice of life. Here’s a little “variety” that Ben has provided lately.

From timeout, repeating over and over: “I said no throwing.”

To a friend’s crying baby: “It’s okay,” in a patient, comforting tone.
Ten seconds later, after the crying resumed: “Baby, stop crying!” in an impatient, annoyed tone.

In our bedroom, as we prepared for an evening out: “Mommy, put me in timeout.”

While standing in his crib: “I got poop. It comes out my hole.”

Pretty much anywhere, at any time: “That big spider not going to bite me,” when there obviously is no spider. We’re not sure of the source of this latest obsession.

Asked if he is a boy: “No, I just Ben.”

Every time he hears us read the line about Peter Rabbit’s cousin, Benjamin Bunny: “No, I not Benjamin Bunny. I just Ben.” Never fails.

Any time one of us, or a visiting friend, sits down at the computer: “You checking e-mail.”

Tonight when I had absolutely no idea where his favorite sleeping buddy was: “It’s in the brown chair.” And that’s exactly where it was. He does this far too often. But not fart too often.

It’s those invisible barking spiders. I’m afraid of those too. Kids Ben’s age can still see ‘em.

Wow, the validation question threw me for a second! I sorely miss the sweet replies of a young child. Thanks for sharing.

Kids say the darndest things. (Appropriate emoticon here.)

“It comes out my hole.” HA!

Actually, it was “It comes out OF my hole,” if you want me to get picky. This was after he discovered his “hole” while he was touching it in the bathtub. Lovely moment, indeed.
