Missing Nature

This waterfall, pictured at Thanskgiving Day 2004, is about three miles from where I grew up. I took this shot after a tough hike-in, and Shannon overcame her frustration with me to smile for this picture.
We had picked the wrong route to get down to the falls, and steep hills, leaves, and sinkholes don’t make for much fun when nobody’s dressed for it. We trudged on, though, and I managed to avoid falling with little Ben in my arms. I can’t believe now that I didn’t go there this year, especially considering we live more than six hours from there now instead of four. Maybe when we go back for Christmas.
Judging from the filename on these, we’ve shot about 3,000 pictures in the past year.
Let’s see, what would that add up to in film and developing to produce that many photos? Hmm, at about $2.50 per roll, and $5.75 per processing and printing fee, that comes out to $1031.25 before tax. Sure, sending it out would cut that cost down a bit, but who has the patience for that anymore? Consider, too, that with digital you only pay to print what you already know are keepers.

Wow… beautiful pictures bud! *S*
I am long sold on the benefits of digital vs. film. I still only have a three year old 2 MP camera with a crappy 3X optical zoom, but it’s more than sufficient for family photography.
Nice waterfall, too!
I remember that hike. That was the site of the famous “Michael Jackson” incident, where I allegedly dangled little Charles out over the waterfall. I also remember the women being just a little peeved about the whole thing too. Maybe we don’t invite them this time…. :- )
Well, you might have held him out there, but you make it sound worse than it was. You only dangled him over the pool below the waterfall, not the waterfall itself. Still would have made Jacko proud, though.
