Back to Blog Business
It’s nice to be finished posting the Bessie story. Thanks to everyone who read it, and a special thanks to those who left comments. I’m considering keeping a separate blog for stories I post in the future. I didn’t want to interrupt the story, yet I found myself missing the ability to throw out a quick thought. Despite my best efforts to remember all the things I wanted to post later, here you sit reading this entry.
The Thanksgiving holiday made us realize a few things. First, we will stop fooling ourselves and finally join the ranks of family members who show up the day of Thanksgiving. In the past, we’ve always made it a point to show up the night before, spend a little time chatting with the folks, and then wake up feeling like we play some part in hosting the event. This time, we got there at 1:15 a.m., and everybody was still awake. We enjoyed a little Bentertainment, and hit the sheets at about 2:15. Yikes.
We live a six-hour drive (that ends up taking seven with supper and other stops) from the site of the festivities, so we still will leave the night before. Difference is, from now on we will stop and get a motel room about an hour or more from Dad’s house, and then continue our journey the next morning, as refreshed as a motel bed can leave us. We may test this theory when we go back for Christmas. And no, dear motel manager, that is not a real dog, it is merely a very life-like cocker spaniel robot.
